Summer Regional Show at Franklin Square Gallery
Paintings, pottery and sculpture from artists in the region will be on display and cash prizes totaling $2,000 will be awarded by judges. First the submissions must be “juried” or selected by the judges to be accepted into the show. Then the prizes will be awarded on June 28th at an artists reception from 6pm-8pm. Submission deadline for artwork is June 24th. In addition there will be a raffle of art work by members of Associated Artists of Southport. Tickets are $1 each and available at the gallery. Drawing is 5pm on July 4th.

The Adventure Kayak Company bicycle tour guide will take participants through the live oak canopied streets and along the waterfront, explaining its history as you pedal by Fort Johnston, Brunswick Inn, the Old Brunswick Jail, the Crimes of the Heart Home, The Indian Trail Tree, along the Cape Fear River and more. Bikes are single-speed, pace is slow, and all participants must wear helmets. Space is limited. Two day advanced registration required.

The Blue & Gray Navies
Two NORTH CAROLINAS -From Wood & Sail to Iron & Steam. Carolina Living History Guild members will set up displays that highlight the history of the USS North Carolina and the CSS North Carolina during the American Civil War. Displays will include steam engineering, ironclad ship construction, navigation, small arms of the US and CS navies, naval ordnance (artillery), uniforms and the “arts of the sailor”. Visitors will be able to view reproductions of period small arms and working models of steam engines, as well as many other items. Guild members will discuss with visitors the vast differences between the 1824 ship-of-the-line and the newly constructed Confederate ironclad gunboat, and how these differences highlighted the change in naval and military technology in the 1860’s. Free with Battleship admission.
