For nearly 200 years, North Carolina’s oldest standing lighthouse, Old Baldy, has marked the mouth of the historic Cape Fear River. Today, thousands of visitors make the exciting journey each year to beautiful Bald Head Island to learn about the island’s rich maritime past at the Smith Island Museum of History and experience Old Baldy up close – including the climb to the top for a breathtaking view of the surrounding area’s outstanding natural beauty.

Lighthouse Grounds Open
Lighthouse Gift Shop opens at 9am, Grounds open 1-4pm
Adults$5/Youth (3-12), Infants 2 and under Free. Visit the pirates camp, shop and climb the lighthouse.
Sinbad & the Meka II invade Bald Head Island!
As he draws closer to shore, look out for cannons blazing! Don’t worry though, Blackbeard’s Crew will be ready to defend Bald Head Island! Get to the marina early for the best location to watch the invasion. Best places to view: West Beach access #1 (Turk’s Head Court) and #2 (Row Boat Row).

At the Harbourside Pavilion.
This is THE place to be to watch Sinbad and his nefarious crew charge from their boat to confront Blackbeard’s crew on the lawn in front of the tent, with guns and cannons blazing! After the battle, enjoy a night of music with authentic pirate band Rusty Cutlass, play games with the pirates. Get your fill of shrimp, bbq, fried chicken, and much more! Cash bar.
Admission includes preferred parking in the meadow next to the tent. THIS EVENT SELLS OUT EVERY YEAR!

10:30 am Pirates and Pancakes!
Bald Head Island Club Pirates love a hearty brunch buffet, too! Join them as they launch Pirate Weekend with music, songs, and declarations of loyalty to Bald Head Island. Reservations required. THIS EVENT ALWAYS SELLS OUT! GET TICKETS EARLY!
$25 adult/ $15 youth/$5 age 3 and under.
Noon to 5 PM History Series
Bald Head Association Meeting Room. A series of fun different history presentations from shipwrecks, to pirates, to early history on Bald Head. List of speakers to be announced. FREE 3 pm Island Wide 24 Hour Treasure Pursuit Begins!
This Treasure Pursuit is more than just a hunt! It is a family challenge full of fun for all ages. Use your head to build up points to win the grand prize and, of course, bragging rights.
Pick up registration packages between 1-3 pm in front of the Keeper’s Cottage. Reservations required. $25 per cart.
2 PM & 3:30 PM Scalawag School!
Learn to walk, talk, and act like a pirate. Reservations required. $20/each includes child’s festival ticket for Sunday.
Ages 4-10.
7:30 & 8:30 PM Pirate Ghost Walk with Island Passage
Bald Head Association Meeting Room. Meet some of Bald Head’s famous ghosts as you start on this trail and weave your way along the guided path. $25 adults, $15 children. NEW THIS YEAR!
SUNDAY AUGUST 5
Noon Pirate Duck Race RETURNING !
Buy a duck and enter the race. Your duck floats from the creek access to the pavilion. Prizes go to the first 5 ducks to cross the finish line! First Prize is $500! Ducks are $10 each or 11 ducks for $100.
10 AM to 6 PM
National Lighthouse & Pirate Festival Day At the Harbourside Pavilion. Visit Blackbeard’s Crew pirate encampment, play games with pirates, watch black powder and sword fight demonstrations, enjoy Rusty Cutlass, the official pirate band of Disneyworld, watch pirate magic shows, chow on cheap eats at Grub Ship, shop the Booty Boutique, and more! Plus, climb to the top of Old Baldy!
Adults $7 Youth $5 no reservations required.
11 AM & 2 PM Scalawag School!
At the Harbourside Pavilion. Learn to walk, talk, and act like a
pirate. Reservations required. $20/each includes child’s festival
ticket for Sunday. Ages 4-10
3 PM Sea Rovers School!
At the Harbourside Pavilion. Advance Pirate training—let your inner pirate out! Ages 10 to adult. Fun for the whole family— form your own pirate team. Learn how to be a pirate captain, rigging, first mate, physician, cook and more in this roving game. Reservations required. $20 each or Family of 4 for $70. Price includes child’s Festival ticket for Sunday.
