On March 23rd from 11am to 3pm come out to the Fire in the Lakes Festival on Boiling Spring Lakes. This festival emphasizes the importance of safely conducting a controlled burn of the grass, leaves, pine straw, and other forest debris from the long leaf pines that are native to the area. Without these controlled and strategically planned burns our beautiful pine forests would disappear entirely and damage our ecosystem.
The festival takes place before the burn and features the 5K Flytrap run and 1 mile fun run/walk at 9am. The festival will have food, games, live music, animals, raffles and prizes, and face painting.
In keeping with the theme of fire safety, Smokey the Bear will also be at the event to promote safe burning techniques and safety measures. They will also have fire trucks and equipment on display. The event will take place at the Boiling Spring Lakes Community Center.
