Listen up, mateys! If you’re a pirate lover, there’s plenty happening on Bald Head Island July 31st to August 2nd to make you say “shiver me timbers!” Whether it’s a haunted tour, a treasure hunt, a pirate pancake feast or a horde of pirates invading the island, there are plenty of opportunities to get your fill of pirates at The Pirate Festival.
For an intensive pirate experience, Pirate Weekend with the Old Baldy Foundation is idea for kids and adults alike.
Adventurous pirates-in-the-making will love the Treasure Hunt, where they will join Colonel Dread and company of the island’s Ghost Walk fame aboard a pirate ship. The crew will “sail” to North Beach to solve riddles, sing sea shanties and piece together a map that ultimately leads to the buried treasure. Budding pirates will learn basic navigation skills, how to read a chart, use a compass, tie knots and talk like a pirate, all in pursuit of the ultimate goal –bringing home the booty.
There’s also activities like a block party, a pirate parade, a costume contest, and the pirate duck race. Arrrgh! Ye won’t want to miss all the fun!
